Richland Country Club

Richland Country Club is a private, member-owned Club located just 10 miles south of downtown Nashville, steeped in the history, elegance, and grace of Tennessee. Nestled on 170 acres of rolling hills on historic Granny White Pike, it is a private retreat in a bustling city.

Founded in 1901, the Club bought the old Nashville Golf and Country Club’s clubhouse and land, and enlisted golf course architect Donald Ross to design an 18-hole course. The Club’s current
site is located on part of the core battlefield of the closing cavalry action from the 1864 Battle of Nashville.

Richland amenities include our 18-hole, par 72 golf course, tennis facilities with indoor and outdoor courts, swimming pool, fitness and wellness facilities, meeting rooms, banquet rooms and dining areas for all occasions.

The 18-hole championship course is 6,825 yards skillfully crafted into the Club’s hilly terrain with zoysia fairways and bent grass greens. The par 72 layout has five sets of tees to challenge every level of ability. It has hosted many USGA, State, and AJGA-Rolex Championships. There is also a practice facility with a putting green, driving range, and chipping greens as well as a Caddie program and other instructional programs.

The club has well-maintained tennis courts where members can play and receive professional instruction. These events may include holiday celebrations, cocktail parties, live entertainment, and family-oriented activities.

Richland Country Club History and Founding

Richland Country Club has a rich history that dates back to its founding in 1901. Here’s an overview of the club’s history and founding:

Founding: Richland Country Club was founded by a group of prominent Nashvillians who were passionate about golf. They sought to create a private club that would provide a venue for golf enthusiasts to play and socialize. The club’s original location was in the Richland Park area of Nashville.

Early Years: In its early years, the club had a nine-hole golf course, which was expanded to 18 holes in 1908. The course was designed by noted golf course architect Tom Bendelow. Over time, the club grew in popularity and became an integral part of Nashville’s social and recreational scene.

Relocation: In 1918, the club moved to its current location in the western part of Nashville, where it acquired a larger property. The move allowed for the development of a new golf course and the construction of a clubhouse that would better serve the needs of the growing membership.

Course Redesign: Over the years, the Richland Country Club golf course underwent several redesigns and renovations. Notable architects such as Donald Ross, Perry Maxwell, and, most recently, Tom Fazio have contributed to the course’s evolution, improving its design and playability.

Major Tournaments: Richland Country Club has hosted numerous prestigious golf tournaments over the years. It has been the site of multiple Tennessee Opens and has also hosted qualifying rounds for the U.S. Open and other significant events. These tournaments have showcased the club’s exceptional golf facilities and attracted top golfers from around the region.

Membership and Facilities: Richland Country Club has always been a private club, offering membership to individuals and families who are interested in golf, socializing, and recreational activities. The club’s facilities have expanded over time to include not only the golf course but also tennis courts, a swimming pool, and various dining options.

Throughout its history, Richland Country Club has maintained a reputation for providing its members with a high-quality golfing experience and a welcoming social environment. Its long-standing presence in the Nashville community has made it an integral part of the city’s golfing heritage.
