Overbrook Golf Club History and Founding

Overbrook Golf Club has a rich history that dates back to its founding in 1900. The club was established by a group of prominent Philadelphia businessmen who shared a passion for the game of golf. They sought to create a private golf club that would provide an exceptional golfing experience and a welcoming social atmosphere.

The original site for Overbrook Golf Club was located in nearby Wynnewood, Pennsylvania. However, in 1911, the club relocated to its current location in Villanova, a suburb of Philadelphia. The decision to move was driven by the desire to secure a larger property that would accommodate the club’s growth and provide a more challenging and scenic golf course.

The renowned golf course architect, Donald Ross, was commissioned to design the new course at Overbrook. Ross was known for his ability to create strategic and visually appealing golf courses, and his design for Overbrook was no exception. The course featured rolling terrain, mature trees, and strategically placed bunkers, providing a challenging yet enjoyable golfing experience.

Today as an invited guest my Sister and I attended our friend’s daughter Mrs. Kara Quigg baby shower. Being among family and friends for this occasion was delightful in itself. However, the club was the perfect choice of class and ambience. The meal with dessert was simply delicious. And I must mention the staff who did an exceptional job of representing the club with courtesy and friendliness. I hope that as you continue serving the community as you have for these many years that you will continue to be a great success and reap a magnitude of rewards!!!!!
